What is a septic system?
A septic system is a device for treating wastewater from household appliances and toilets. Its components are generally made up of a septic tank (watertight system) that clarifies the water before sending it to a purifier (non-watertight system), whose role is to complete the sanitation by infiltration into the receiving soil.
There are several types of septic systems, including new technologies that are more compact but require a maintenance contract.
All projects must be subject to a site characterization study conducted by a consultant (engineer or technologist) who will evaluate various criteria, including the number of bedrooms, the nature of the soil and its level of permeability, the slope of the land, the available surface area as well as the site constraints.
How to plan and execute your project
It is necessary to submit a permit application before undertaking any septic installation work on the territory of the Municipality of Messines.
This requirement applies to the construction of a complete septic system, as well as partial work such as the installation of a holding tank, the replacement of a septic tank or repairs to an existing leaching field.
