Carelessness and recklessness can cause fires in the home. The best way to prevent a fire is to practice safe behaviors.
Install a smoke alarm and change the batteries regularly
With a smoke alarm, you will be warned as soon as a fire starts and increase your chances of evacuating your home. It is therefore very important to install at least one smoke alarm in your home and to check regularly that it is working properly.
Make an escape plan for your home
An escape plan is a drawing of each floor of your home to facilitate the evacuation of occupants in the event of a fire or emergency. Knowing how and where to evacuate gives you the best chance of getting out of your home.
Supplementary heating
Do you have a wood-burning heating system? An electric, gas or oil-fired space heater?
Did you know that wood heating is the biggest cause of property loss due to fire during the winter? Our safety tips will help protect you and your home from fire.
The golden rule...
NEVER go back into a building if it is smoky or on fire. Remember, only firefighters have the protective equipment to rescue a person or animal trapped inside a burning house.
Be prepared: get an emergency kit
